Our focus is on technology-driven industries, but our definition of technology extends far beyond IT, and includes domains such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, telecommunications and other existing and emerging technology areas (see sidebar).

Our goal is to enhance the competitiveness of businesses, industries and countries. We do this by enabling our clients to develop and implement successful strategies and plans, based on a solid foundation of market intelligence and business research, coupled with our unique understanding of the role and contribution of technology and technological innovation in the value chain.

What is technology?
There are many different definitions of technology. The essential components of technology are knowledge, skills, tools, techniques and procedures. In terms of this definition, every sector and industry is technology-based. However, some industries have a very mature technology base, whereas others are highly dynamic and in a constant state of flux.

In some industries knowledge intensity is higher than in others. Knowledge-based Industries (KBI's) are those industries where the knowledge is one of the most significant contributors to the value chain.

The term "high technology" is commonly used to refer to domains such as:
bulletadvanced materials technology
bulletbiotechnology
bullete-commerce / m-commerce
bulletelectronics
bulletinformation and communications technologies (ICTs)
bulletnanotechnology
